Volunteer with us
The organization runs on people who offer their time.
Every person involved in Light for Life Initiatives is a volunteer. Nobody is paid, including the board. If you would like to help, everything you need to start is on this page.
What we need help with
Most of the work is unglamorous and genuinely useful. Building and maintaining this website. Keeping case records straight so that every payment we make can be accounted for. Writing to donors. Helping run the occasional community fundraiser.
Technical help is the most acute need at the moment. The site you are reading is small and deliberately simple, and there is a short guide to working on it if you would like to see what that involves before committing to anything.
How it works
Three steps
Get in touch
Email us and tell us a little about yourself and what you would like to work on. There is no formal application to prepare first.
Send us the information form
Fill it in online and print it, or download the Word version. Send it back with a photo ID, your resume, and a short note about what interests you.
We confirm the role
We send you a service confirmation letter setting out what you will work on and the terms. You sign the acknowledgment, we set up your access, and you are away.
The paperwork
Two short documents
Volunteer information form
Your details, background, and a few disclosure questions. About five minutes. You can fill it in on this site and print it, or download the Word version.
Service confirmation letter
What we send once we have your form. It sets out the role, the terms, and what we ask about confidentiality. You are welcome to read it before you apply.
Before you ask
A few things worth saying plainly
Everyone is welcome
Volunteers are welcome regardless of citizenship or immigration status. If your status places conditions on the activities you may perform, please confirm with your school’s designated official or your own adviser that this is consistent with them. We are glad to work around whatever they say.
This is unpaid, and it stays unpaid
Volunteer roles carry no wage, stipend or benefit, and no promise of future paid employment. We do not sponsor immigration status. We would rather be blunt about that at the start than have anyone misunderstand it later.
You set your own hours
You choose when and how much you work. We will tell you what is most useful and by when it would help, but nobody here is keeping a timesheet on you.
Confidentiality is the one hard rule
Some roles involve seeing information about the people we help. That material exists to verify that a case is real. It is never published, and we ask every volunteer to treat it that way permanently.
